Microchipping
The law in Ireland states that all dog owners must place a microchip in their pet. This is so that the animal can be identified if it is lost or stolen as the microchip holds the contact details of the owner.
A microchip is a small electronic device which is the size of a grain of rice. The microchip is coded with a unique number that can be read by a scanner and works through a radio wave frequency. If a dog is microchipped, a veterinary practice can scan a dog and will enter the dog's microchip number into the database before contacting its owner. You also need to remember to notify your microchip database provider if you change address, mobile, or landline phone number.
It is a simple procedure that takes just a couple of minutes.
